Bethany has taught at the Western Michigan University School of Music, Suzuki Royal Oak Institute of Music (Royal Oak, MI), the Michigan American String Teacher's Association's summer string camps, as a clinician at the Okemos, MI Suzuki Institute, and as a teaching assistant at the PhoenixPhest Chamber Music Festival (Ann Arbor, MI).
Her interest in social empowerment through arts education has motivated her work with children and teenagers in urban Houston, TX with the Center for Student Missions, and in Detroit, MI with the University of Michigan's Detroit Initiative.
She has performed in masterclasses for Steven Isserlis, Anthony Ross, Jeff Butler, Robert Demaine, and Anne Martindale Williams. As a chamber musician, she has worked with members of The Merling Trio, The Chiara, Cavani, and Cleveland string quartets, and with the Ann Arbor Phoenix Ensemble. She appeared with The Creative Arts Orchestra (the University of Michigan’s freely improvising ensemble) at the Ann Arbor Edgefest masterclass series.
She was a concerto competition finalist at The Masterworks Festival and at the Western Michigan University School of Music. At Western, she served as co-principal cellist of the University Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed with the Michigan Chamber Players, the University of Michigan Jazz Arranging Ensemble, as a member of the Detroit-based Psalm 150 Symphony, and with the folk ensemble Jessamine’s Vine. She was featured on the Women Composers Ann Arbor concert series, and as cellist with the Leopold Group Chicago for the award-winning new musical Green Eyes. Her work as a studio musician includes three professionally recorded discs with pop and folk singers.
She has attended Encore School for Strings (studied with Richard Aaron and Bruce Uchimura) and The Masterworks Festival (studied with Alan Harrell and Leo Altino). As cellist of The Yellow Wood Trio, she was a two-time fellow at The Chamber Music Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska.
